The medieval city of Brasov, also known as “The city of the crown” (Korona), has been around since 1201, when it seems that the first fortifications were built. Brasov was known since the age of Dacians under the name of “Cumidava”. After the Romans conquered Dacia, this area has become an important strategical point but also a source of natural resources. In the museum of the first Romanian school, which is in the yard of St. Nicholas Church (1201 – Unesco heritage), there are documents that prove the existence of indigenous population settlements since the 9th Century before Christ. You can admire the Baroque architecture, the early Gothic and the Venetian Renaissance style.

Considered one of the most powerful city from the Eastern Europe, the city of Brasov held a very important role in maintaining the inter-ethnic relationships in the time of Austro-Hungarian domination from Transylvania.
